Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about therapy and working with me.
QDo you offer both in-person and virtual therapy?
Yes. I offer in-person therapy at my office in Boca Raton, Florida, as well as virtual therapy for clients located anywhere in Florida or New Jersey.
Virtual therapy is not simply a fallback when meeting in person is inconvenient. The approaches I use—including EMDR, trauma-focused therapy, somatic work, and exposure-based interventions for phobias—can work very well through video sessions. Many clients also appreciate being able to do meaningful therapeutic work from the comfort and familiarity of their own environment, without travel time.
We can discuss your preferences, goals, and clinical needs to decide whether in-person or virtual therapy feels like the better fit for you.
QWhat states are you licensed in?
QDo you take insurance?
I am not in-network with insurance plans and operate on a private-pay basis. You pay the session fee directly at the time of service.
If your plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, I can provide a superbill upon request for you to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. The amount reimbursed—if any—depends on your plan, deductible, and your insurer's allowed amount, so it is important to confirm your benefits directly with your insurance company.
QHow do I know if I have out-of-network benefits?
Call the member-services number on your insurance card and ask about your out-of-network outpatient mental or behavioral health coverage. Helpful questions include:
- Does my plan include out-of-network mental health benefits?
- What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much of it have I met?
- After the deductible, what percentage or allowed amount does the plan reimburse for an individual psychotherapy session?
- Is there a limit on the number of sessions covered each year?
- Do I need a referral, prior authorization, or other approval?
- How do I submit a superbill, and is there a deadline for submitting claims?
Your insurer can explain your specific coverage, but reimbursement cannot be guaranteed.
QHow much do sessions cost?
QDo you work with teenagers or couples?
QWhat's the difference between weekly therapy and an EMDR intensive?
QWhat's the difference between trauma therapy and complex trauma therapy?
QCan therapy really help with phobias?
Phobias can be addressed in therapy even when you understand that the fear is excessive but your body still reacts as if danger is immediate. I primarily use EMDR, with the Flash Technique and gradual exposure when useful, to work with the learned fear response.
The process and timeline depend on the particular fear, the degree of avoidance, and whether trauma or panic is also involved.
