Body-based, individualized psychotherapy

Somatic Therapy in Boca Raton

Sometimes you understand why you feel a certain way, but your emotional and physical responses have not changed.

Somatic therapy includes the body in psychotherapy so we can work with what is happening—not only explain it.

What somatic therapy means here

The body becomes part of the conversation.

Therapy that includes what you notice physically

Sessions remain psychotherapy sessions. There is no physical touch or body manipulation. Depending on what is useful, I may invite you to slow down and notice a sensation, emotion, breath pattern, or impulse while we stay connected to the present.

Somatically informed therapy can be useful when anxiety, trauma, emotion, or disconnection shows up through physical responses that are hard to reach through words alone.

What you may notice

Your body may be saying something important.

Tension, pressure, heaviness, or constriction
Numbness, shutdown, or feeling disconnected
Restlessness or an urge to move or escape
Changes in breathing, heat, cold, or physical activation
Emotions that feel difficult to identify or put into words
Knowing you are safe while your body reacts differently

A practical, paced approach

What we may do in a session

Somatic work is not a rigid protocol. We use body awareness when it helps you access, tolerate, and understand an emotional experience without becoming overwhelmed.

If you tend to intellectualize emotions, we can gently notice the physical experience alongside the story or explanation. Pendulation—moving attention between activation and a steadier sensation—can help keep this work within a manageable range.

Notice where an emotion or response appears physically
Describe and track a sensation without forcing it to change
Become curious about whether it moves, shifts, or communicates a need
Notice impulses toward protection, movement, or withdrawal
Move attention between activation and areas of greater comfort
Slow down, reconnect with the present, and use breath, movement, or mindfulness when appropriate

Integrated care

Somatic Therapy and EMDR

I often combine somatic awareness with EMDR. Noticing physical responses can help us regulate activation, work carefully with numbness or disconnection, and slow trauma processing when needed before returning to the EMDR work.
